Anniversary and Departure

Dateline – Ensenada 17 Junio 2007

The students, life-long learners, and teachers-at-sea (and assorted other partial voyagers – all told, about 400 more folks) all boarded today. The ship is humming with all the excitement (and with all the extra footsteps and voices!). It will seem crowded for a day or two, but as we all spend time together, sort out our schedules, and make new friends, these folks too will quickly become integral parts of the community.

Dawn and I stood out on deck, facing into the setting sun as we headed out to sea, eager to get our voyage underway in earnest. Next stop, Acapulco!

Dateline – Ensenada 15 Junio 2007

Dawn and I celebrated our 10th anniversary onboard the ship today surrounded by new and already close friends. It is amazing how quickly community develops among the faculty and staff (and traveling partners, like me), even as they are all working feverishly to prepare for the imminent arrival of the students.

And speaking of working feverishly…. Dawn has been working very hard, and despite this, she ordered a large cake for us to share with everyone, and organized a party. Her incredible thoughtfulness, even while besieged, reminds me yet again why I love her.
